Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctuary

Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctuary

Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctuary, also known as Sona Nadi Wildlife Sanctuary or simply Sonandai, is a vital wildlife reserve between the two well-known national parks of Corbett and Rajaji in the Uttarakhand region of India. It spans a territory of 301 square kilometres. It has gained popularity as a tourist destination because of its diverse flora and fauna, which thrives particularly well to the north of the Sonanadi River. The Asiatic Elephant, as well as the tiger, cheetah, sambhar, leopard, and reptiles, love to hang out in this area. At Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctuary, visitors can see more than 150 different species of birds in their natural habitat.

The reserve is also the only protected area where walking is permitted. As a result, it is teeming with several non-venomous snake species, and visiting here is a one-of-a-kind experience.

Sonanadi, a gorgeous Nainital area reserve, benefits from the splendour of the Plain and Mandal rivers. The Vatanvasa gate provides entry to the Halduparao Forest Rest House, a functioning facility within the Sonanadi Reserve. thick sal and bamboo covering

A fantastic location for those seeking the embrace of nature and nirvana, complete with the sound of birds chirping and a sense of peaceful coexistence with the wildlife. The Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctuary, established on January 9th, 1987, is fundamentally connected to “Project Tiger,” which started in 1973. Together, Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctuary and Jim Corbett National Park are home to the world’s second-largest panther and tiger population.

The Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctuary’s fauna

Rare creatures, including Asiatic Elephants, Tigers, Barking Deer, Sambhar, Cheetal, Wild Bear, and many Reptiles, use the sanctuary’s marshes as their abode. The refuge is also home to around 600 birds, both migratory and resident, and has a thriving avian life. The migrating birds travel to this sanctuary in search of a warm winter residence when their primary adobe becomes colder during the season.

Some bird species present at the Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctuary include falcons, warblers, hornbills, Himalayan bearded vultures, pheasants, wall creepers, thrushes, changeable hawk eagles, emerald doves, flycatchers, and brown fish owls.

Some of the rarest medical plants in the nation can be found in the sanctuary’s flora, along with a few shrub species listed as endangered.

At the Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctuary, the famous Jeep Safari

There is a facility for tourist jeep safaris so they can enjoy the diversity and beauty this location has to offer. As exciting as it is, it gives you a glimpse into the native habitat of the local animals and birds. Of course, one of the most well-known hobbies here is looking for tigers, but safety comes first.

The Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctuary also offers elephant safaris. At the sanctuary’s Ramnagar office, tickets for these safaris can be reserved in advance. The Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctuary is available to visitors from June 15th to October 15th and is closed during the monsoon season.

Dhikala Jim Corbett

dhikala jim corbett

Dhikala Jim Corbett – A rich source of wildlife, fauna, and flora, as well as exceptional natural beauty, the Dhikala section of Corbett National Park, is likely the most preserved and wildlife-rich area in Northern India. Only here are “Chaurs,” enormous, lush grasslands resembling the Savanna in Africa. The 1936-built Dhikala Forest Lodge is located on the Ramganga Reservoir’s border, looking out over the forested hills of Kumaon and Garhwal. An overnight stay here offers the chance to go on elephant rides and Jeep safaris and spend the middle of the mornings on observation towers with a view of the Ramganga river and watering holes. The Ramnagar Railway Station is 50 miles away.

Although these accommodations were significantly refurbished in 2006, the Dhikala Forest Lodge’s location deep within the forest makes up for its poor accommodations, as you can see wildlife from your room’s verandah. By the standards of the Indian Jungle, the Dhikala’s rooms have undergone renovations and are no longer modest. The Dhikala Forest Lodge is located in the heart of the Corbett National Park and is protected from wild animals by an excellent solar fence.

The bathrooms are attached and have flushing toilets in the English manner. The rooms are clean. Although there are showers and working mixers, bucket baths are advised just in case. Although there is undoubtedly access to running hot and cold water, we recommend using mineral water to clean your teeth. The resort has a backup generator, inverters, and power with set supply schedules. Every other night, wildlife movies are played in a makeshift theatre, and the lodge has a lovely wildlife library.

Then, under the condition that applicants present photocopies of their identity cards, the 03-day length permit is immediately issued. For the ticket, foreign nationals must present their passport and a photocopy.
Lodges in Corbett Forest Only three days at most would be allotted for the issuance of permits. Permits are not transferable and are not refundable after they have been issued. The park administration is not in any way liable for any harm that occurs.

Chaurs (Grass Lands) inside Dhikala Jim Corbett

The vast grassland home to elephants, spotted deers, wild pigs, hog deers, etc., makes Dhikala famous. Visitors frequently see an untamed Tiger running after a deer or traversing the meadow.

Watch Tower around Dhikala Jim Corbett

The watch tower in Dhikala is ideally situated to provide a great perspective of the animals that come to the area’s chaurs to graze. It also gives you a fantastic view over the entire Ramganga riverbed and a significant portion of the Dhikala chaur.
The Dhikala Forest Rest Louse is a 10-minute walk from this watch tower. About fifty yards south of the watchtower is an artificial waterhole that makes it the ideal location to see deer, elephants, wild pigs, and occasionally a tiger.

Gairal’s Crocodile Point

The shortcut from Gairal to the other rest houses to the west leads to Crocodile Pool. Additionally, it is a balcony-like natural formation that overlooks a pool that crocodiles virtually always populate.

Samantha Trail

This jungle trail runs from the Dhikala watchtower’s base to the Khinanauli rest house. The majority of tigers in the area are most likely to be seen in this location. This is because of its prime placement between the riverbed and the hills on either side. Most animals travel through this area on their way down to find water. Elephants frequent this track, so if you want to drive down here just before dusk in the summer, make sure your car can be reversed as quickly as it can be moved forward. Alongside this track, a pair of Serpent Eagles had their nest high in a tree. Indeed, this music won’t let you down if patience is one of your characteristics.
When in the zone, one can see numerous different varieties of deer, including spotted deer and others like the para (Axis pornicus), the sambar (Cervus unicolour), and the Kakkar (Muntiacus muntjak), popularly understood as the barking deer because of the hoarse sound it produces that sounds like a dog is barking.
It is one of the best sites on the planet to see wild elephants and tigers.
Additionally, this region is a bird watcher’s paradise. A wide variety of birds can be noticed in the area because of the nearby woodlands and the sizable body of water.

In this forest area, there is an excellent probability of seeing a sloth bear. Termites and the enticing Mahua flower nectar both draw them in. When the Mahua ferments in the bears’ systems, it has been seen that they are drunk.

Now Ramganga National Park

Now Ramganga National Park

Now Ramganga National Park Demand raised for renaming Jim Corbett National Park supported the suggestion of former senior IFS Minister.

Now Ramganga National Park
Now Ramganga National Park

A new debate has started regarding the name of the world-famous Jim Corbett National Park. RS Bhadauria, who was the Chief Wildlife Warden of undivided Uttar Pradesh in 1980 after Ashwini Choubey, formerly the Union Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, has written a letter to the Union Minister of State, advocating that Corbett should be renamed as Ramganga.

In this regard, Assistant Inspector General of Forests, NTCA, Hemant Singh, has sought the opinion of the Chief Wildlife Warden of Uttarakhand. Corbett Tiger Reserve (CTR) Director Rahul said that Rahul had received a letter from the former IFS from the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA). But so far, no action has been initiated in this regard from the departmental level. Its report will be prepared and sent to NTCA.

and the discussion started from here for Ramganga National Park

Union Minister of State Ashwini Kumar Choubey visited Corbett Park in October 2021. Then he talked about changing its name to the old name Ramganga National Park. However, Uttarakhand Forest Minister Harak Singh Rawat had not changed the name. But now, RS Bhadauria, the Chief Wildlife Warden of undivided Uttar Pradesh in the 1980s, has written a letter to Minister of State Ashwini Choubey, advocating that Corbett should be renamed as Ramganga.

we will correct the mistake by changing the name

In a letter addressed to the Union Minister of State on behalf of the former IFS officer, it has been said that I support the suggestion of renaming Corbett as Ramganga. The park area is the catchment area of the Ram Ganga river, which flows through it. It is the lifeline of the entire flora and fauna of the park. The name you suggested is not new; it revivals its last word. This would be equivalent to rectifying the previous mistake.

name changed twice

Corbett was named Hailey National Park at its establishment in the year 1936. In 1954-55 it was renamed Ramganga National Park. A year later, Ramganga National Park changed its name to Corbett Park.

For the first time, the forest department is opening the doors of this range for tourists. With this, it will be the tenth tourism zone to be operated from Ramnagar. With its opening, the pressure of tourists in Corbett Park and the Sitawani Zone will also be reduced. Tiger, Guldar, Elephant, Chital, Reptiles, Birds of all species are present here with mixed dense forest. Its entrance has been made in Mohan Nagar Gujar Jhala of Maldhan, just 23 km from Ramnagar. Here tourists will be able to do exciting safaris within 18 kilometers of the forest.

stay at the treehouse in phato zone in corbett national park

Right now there will be a day safari in this zone. But in the future, it will be very special in terms of night stay. Here tourists will be able to enjoy staying in the treehouse. At present, five tree houses have been completed. There are two rooms in a treehouse, in which five to six tourists can easily stay. That is the arrangement for the stay of 30 tourists in one night. If you stay in rooms made of wood on a tall tree, you will find yourself in the lap of the tree.

Four rooms in the British Forest Outpost

Rajkumar, Ranger of Phato Tourism Zone, says that along with a treehouse, four rooms have been built for a night stay in the British Forest Post. Along with this, two rooms have also been prepared in the 109-year-old rest house. For the last 10 years, preparations were going on to develop this area as a tourism zone. After the beautification of the British bungalow, now the Fato Tourism Zone has been finalized.

Direct employment to over 200 people

The opening of the new zone will also provide employment opportunities. This will directly benefit about 200 gypsy owners and drivers of Ramnagar and Maldhan. With the opening of the zone, the villagers will also open shops for the purchase of tourists in their area.

The fee will be on the lines of Corbett

On the lines of Corbett Park, one thousand rupees will be taken from six people for a gypsy safari. 40-40 gypsies will be allowed for morning and evening safaris. Initially, booking for safaris will be offline.

More people will get employment from the new zone

DFO Terai Western Forest Division Ramnagar BS Shahi said that the new zone will give revenue to the department and employment to the local people. With the opening of the new zone, direct employment will be available to about 200 gypsy owners and drivers. If there is a good number of tourists, the facility of night stay in Phato will also be increased.

Just After Amar Chand Ji fully realize that we are his today night stay guest he starts running towards us and within a second he cross the little river and within a moment he was with us.

hirna zone jeep safari Jim Corbett national park

Jhirna zone jeep safari in Jim Corbett national park is a must-visit place for tourists as this zone also has tigers, and they can be easily sighted. This zone also has one forest rest house and the Jhirna river, which you must cross during a jeep safari. This zone is almost open throughout the year for tourists.

I have done this zone safari in august 2020 with my three more friends. We reached Ramnagar in the night from Dehradun via car. We stayed overnight in a resort, and the next day early morning, we headed towards our Jhirna zone safari in Dhela Range; actually, Jhirna and Dhela zone is in the same area direction (West side of Ramnagar), But we have stayed in a resort on Nainital Highway which is in the opposite direction and 25 km far from Jhirna Zone gate.

So, our driver charges 200 Rupay extra for this distance, but we don’t mind paying him as we also understand this actual charge.

Soon we start jeep safari. Finally, we encounter this Hut inside villagers’ farm, which looks authentic with cow and buffalo tied there.

And we moved ahead and reached the Jhirna zone. Finally, after 45 minutes of Ride-on main concrete road, we found ourselves on the main Jhirna zone gate.

As we were traveling in a lockdown session and due to corona guidelines, we had to wear a mask and follow all covid rules and regulations. However, the primary forest guard checked our documents and allowed us after confirmation.

Our jeep safari enters inside the buffer zone of Jhirna forest rest house our excitements keep increasing, and I start making a youtube video for my youtube channel – SUBHASH CHAUDHARY VLOGS

Here is the link of Jhirna zone jeep safari Jim Corbett national park

you can enjoy the detailed information video about our jeep safari to Jhirna of Corbett national park in the monsoon.

Both the zones have the same entry gate called Dhela gate. However, just after entering the Dhela gate, we come across the Dhela zone, a buffer zone, which means it is close to villages, and the Tribal community can be seen roaming inside with their buffalo. Still, as we get more inside, we can see little wildlife like wild boar, axis deer, and even tiger pug marks which shows the presence of Big cats in the Dhela zone itself.

Dhela zone is a circuit which typically jeep safari drivers cover in anticlockwise means we enter from one side and exit from other by taking around and at the end of the Dhela zone safari.

We also come across a beautiful grassland and a watchtower on its edge, which looks more amazing during summer as the grass is shallow and one can see till far.

While Jhirna zone is after crossing Dhela zone means to Enter Dhela zone we have to enter in the forest on our left side from the main road while for Jhira we have to keep moving straight for many kilometers. So the Jhirna zone is a Little more Inside than the Dhela zone. Jhirna zone also Lies in the Buffer zone of Corbett national park. Still, one can not see any tribal community or domestic animals like buffalo inside the Jhirna zone, and wildlife is good. However, there can feel tiger presence quickly. During my jeep safari in the Jhirna zone, I heard a tiger roar clearly and saw axis deer, sambhar deer, hog deer, barking deer, white face monkey, etc.

If you are confused about selecting between the two, go with Jhirna Zone First and then Dhela Zone because both zones contain Different geographical areas and maps that one must visit at least once. In the forest, who knows which animal can encounter animal at what day and time. Many times, people are disappointed as they don’t have a glimpse of a tiger in the Dhikala zone, but visitors on the Dhela zone jeep safari are lucky enough.
